Ballard of The Winecoff Hotel
Legendary Southern
Gospel artist, Lee Roy Abernathy, wrote and recorded this
song after changing his mind and heading home on December
7, 1946 rather than staying in his full-time room at the
Winecoff Hotel.
This song (whose
lyrics were considered slightly morbid and in bad taste)
was eventually pulled from local radio stations, yet obviously
had an emotional impact on Abernathy.
